TEMPO WOODFIRE PIZZA PASTA & GELATO NORTHCOTE
Tempo Wood fire Pizza, Pasta and Gelato restaurant in Northcote is a boutique, local family owned Pizzeria where family and friends can gather to eat, drink and enjoy ‘la dolce vita’.
Tempo which translates to ‘time’ is owned by Peter Minniti, who is part of the Australian Pizza Team, and his wife Cecilia Colosimo. Together with their four children they have now made Northcote their home, bringing their wealth of experience and passion for pizza, pasta and gelato to the suburb where the family have resided since 1956.
Peter and Cecilia have over 30 years of extensive experience in the food industry, opening their very first Gelateria called” Tempo Gelateria & Deli” in North Carlton back in 1987.
In more recent years they were located at “Cafe Andiamo” in Degraves Street, one of Melbourne’s busiest inner city cosmopolitan lane ways and then moved on to “Pizza e Birra” located in Melbourne’s colourful seaside playground of St. Kilda. Pizza e Birra was sold to enable Peter and Cecilia to travel to their hometown in Italy to undertake intense training and become officially certified with the “Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana” (AVPN) and the “Babbi Gelato Academy”. In 2016 Peter and Cecilia revived their original business name “Tempo” and opened their new artisan style Pizza Restaurant and artisan style Gelato Bar (Pizzeria e Gelateria) at 242 High Street Northcote, where originally Caffe Bedda resided.
Like all Italians, Peter and Cecilia love to see family, friends and colleagues come together to share great food and wine. The seasonal menu and weekly specials offer a range of antipasti, wood fired Neapolitan style pizza, homemade potato gnocchi, pasta dishes and tempting homemade desserts, including the homemade Gelato which is made on the premises and displayed in Melbourne’s only “Tonda” rotating gelato display case. TONDA IS THE 1ST ROUND, ROTATING GELATO DISPLAY CASE IN THE WORLD… At Tempo it’s all about using fresh, honest ingredients and the art of combining them to create a delightful dining experience.
Neapolitan Pizza originated in Naples, Italy and is prepared with simple and fresh ingredients and cooked for no more than 90 seconds in a wood oven at 400 degrees. It has the fewest ingredients and is the most complicated of pizza to make, the secret being the long dough fermentation period giving that moist stretchy chew with plenty of flavour. The pizza at Tempo is made adhering to the International Regulations of the AVPN (Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana) as they work towards official certification.
All products are made fresh in-house. Fresh herbs, vegetables and fruits are used also for the Gelato which are all locally grown at the Nonno’s (grandfather’s) family home in Northcote – you can’t get more local and organic than that! We also offer a selection of gluten free and vegan diet items on the menu.
Tempo is the perfect place to host your private function, whether it is a personal celebration or corporate occasion. Catering, take away and home delivery are also available.
